Nvidia and Apollo reportedly eyeing 130+ old telecom sites with ~1 GW for AI data centers

Per The Information, Nvidia is working with Apollo to evaluate converting more than 130 Brightspeed telephone exchange buildings across 20 US states into AI data centers, with roughly 1 GW of available power. Retrofits could begin in Q1 2027. The goal: get inference chips running sooner by reusing buildings that already have power, instead of waiting years for greenfield data center construction.
