Obsidian 1.14 ships native Kanban boards; power user explains why he's not switching yet

Obsidian 1.14 (released Oct 5) brings five headline features: editing Markdown files outside the vault, macOS Quick Look previews, iOS Quick Capture, highlight colors, and native Kanban boards built on Bases.
- The native board follows the "file over app" principle: cards are notes, columns are property values, and every drag lands in plain Markdown—no dependency on plugin maintenance
- The legacy Kanban plugin stores a whole board in one Markdown file (cards as list items); newer plugins like the author's Kanban Action Planner build on Bases, where each card is a real note with properties
- Verdict: for most people the native view is enough to drop plugins, but the author's daily system relies on his plugin's extras, so he's staying put for now and expects the native view to improve quickly
