Gary Marcus' five predictions: generative AI valuations may be over, not AI itself
asusarla · x · 2026-11-06
Gary Marcus laid out five predictions in response to the latest "AI is over" panic after a brutal market day:
- AI isn't over — nobody was saying that after the DeepSeek moment, and nobody should now
- What may actually be over: insanely high generative AI valuations and exponentially increasing datacenter investments
- People will keep using generative AI, mostly via harnessed neurosymbolic models with tools and loops rather than the fading pure LLMs
- New, more reliable architectures will eventually displace today's AI, but it may take several years or more
- The next generation of AI will be worth real money; this one was overrated and hindsight will show it
He was quoting deebosa's reminder that the DeepSeek shock caused a record $600B single-day Nvidia hit and the complex still went higher — trajectory beats one ugly day.
