EA moral views debate: critics accused of relying on even more extreme moral premises
ShakeelHashim · x · 2026-11-06
A reposted exchange on effective altruism ethics: the original post argues that many people criticize EAs for extreme moral views, yet when pressed to defend their critique they posit some of the most extreme and least plausible moral premises imaginable. The screenshot shows a back-and-forth where one participant insists that saving a 98-year-old serial killer is equally as good as saving an average 20-year-old — even if the saved person lives only one more day — prompting the retort that holders of views shared by 0% of people shouldn't sneer at those who disagree.
