Responding to NY assemblymember Alex Bores, Readback Labs proposes a mechanism requiring accountable people to continuously demonstrate they understand how AI R&D works, verifiable through mandated audits. Their accompanying article, "Pacing AI Automation Based on Understanding," argues that when frontier AI researchers no longer know what they're shipping, development is moving too fast — already a reality inside frontier labs.
