Two-year passion project memos-mcp inverts agent memory: engram continuity layer instead of vector RAG

RileyRalmuto · x · 2026-11-06

Developer RileyRalmuto has released memos-mcp (Riley-Coyote/memos-mcp), an agent-memory MCP server he has been building for 2 years, with a Devin DeepWiki deep dive into the architecture.

The design philosophy is described as an "architectural inversion": it rejects the firehose RAG pattern, instead protecting scarcity through a restricted continuity layer of durable engrams and beliefs — and only the agent itself writes memory; transcript indexers that harvest model text directly are intentionally omitted. The stack includes SQLite storage and migrations, EngramStore, read-only engram stores, retrieval pipeline, and memory lifecycle mechanisms like consolidation, decay and softening, all local-first.
