Google donates Agent Substrate, gVisor and OpenRL to CNCF; Agent Substrate hits 1.0 on GKE
HowDevelop · x · 2026-11-06
Google announced the donation of three open source projects to the CNCF Sandbox: Agent Substrate (now 1.0 and GA on GKE), gVisor (heading toward Incubation), and OpenRL. The stack targets agent-scale workloads — short bursts of code execution interleaved with model turns and human input — scaling isolated agent environments without idle compute overhead, runnable on any Kubernetes cluster across CPUs, GPUs and TPUs, mirroring what CNCF did for containers in the 2010s.
