React maintainer: GitHub blocks repo access over SMS 2FA but offers no way to delete it
Vjeux · x · 2026-11-06
Vjeux, well-known former React engineer, publicly flagged two GitHub pain points:
- SMS-based 2FA marks his account as "not secure," blocking him from viewing the react repo — yet the UI offers no option to delete the SMS 2FA method, a deadlock.
- He also asks GitHub to make 2FA settings manageable via the CLI, so an AI agent can handle such account operations on his behalf.
The complaint hints at a new expectation in the agent era: developer platforms need agent-friendly CLIs.
