splat-walk open-sourced: compressing a 1.18GB PLY to 76MB SOG for a fake phone-footage walkthrough
willeastcott · x · 2026-11-05
willeastcott shares the technical details and source of his fake phone-footage splat demo: the original 1.18GB PLY was compressed to a 76MB SOG, then augmented with a simulated head and gait, a film camera pass, and per-splat shader hooks for the burn effect. The scan is David Fletcher's CC BY 4.0 'Artillery Passage' from SuperSplat. Built with PlayCanvas (WebGPU, WebGL 2 fallback) and Vite, with a 30fps clock and footstep/city soundtrack; open on GitHub with auto-deploy on every push, 78MB web build.
