Juan Benet: AI will JIT-produce personal software as production cost goes to zero
juanbenet · x · 2026-11-05
Protocol Labs founder Juan Benet argues that as software production cost approaches zero and intelligence explodes, models will JIT-produce software ergonomically designed for each user and use case.
He flags what resists replication:
- Well-curated, up-to-date data — so databases and platforms to integrate with will persist;
- But how long "software as we know it" lasts is an open question.
Echoing Sara Du's thread: years ago he was skeptical non-engineers wanted to build their own personal software; he's come around — people crave the sense of power, need workflows nobody else will build, and will happily "PM the product for a few weeks" to fix what drives them crazy.
