Solo dev builds window-free OS where a local Qwen3.5 9B generates every screen

Reddit user leonardoc unveiled NemaOS, a hobby operating system with no apps and no windows: you type a request and a local Qwen3.5 9B answers with a fully composed screen (text, images, video, live data) instead of a chat reply.

What exists today: an assembly UEFI stub booting a nostd Rust kernel (x8664, QEMU for now), a from-scratch network stack (virtio-net, ARP, IPv4, TCP, DHCP, DNS, HTTP/1.1), always-verified HTTPS via rustls, in-kernel image/video playback, and a small scene language the model writes which the kernel renders, animates and caches.

Honest status: inference still runs on the host (M4 Max) over a serial bridge. Next milestones: moving inference into the kernel with a GGUF loader and AVX2 matmul kernels, then bare-metal dual boot. Voice input works in testing. Built solo with heavy Claude Code assistance; two model waits in the demo are sped up 3x.
