Open-source Cicada brings real-time translation and AI meeting notes to any Mac call, free 50h/month
dotey · x · 2026-11-05
Cicada is an Apache-2.0 open-source, native macOS app (1.1k GitHub stars) providing live translation and AI meeting notes for any call or stream.
Key features:
- Live bilingual subtitles for Zoom, Tencent Meeting, Feishu, YouTube, X Spaces and more — it reads system audio locally, so no bot joins the meeting and other participants are unaware
- AI meeting notes refreshed every 45 seconds with summaries, topics, conclusions, action items, fishbone diagrams and a glossary, each item linked to the original quote and timestamp
- Simultaneous interpretation: voice-cloned translation via virtual mic — hold the right ⌥ key and others hear your translated speech in real time
- Speaker recognition is experimental
It uses the Ling model for notes and Ming-3.0 for interpretation, backed by Ling's free 50-hour monthly quota; setup takes three steps (register, create API key, paste into settings). Windows/Linux/Android versions are planned.
