OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said India has overtaken the US as ChatGPT's largest user base globally, in an interview with podcaster Raj Shamani.
- Altman: "The US, at least on expressed preference, is unusually negative on AI relative to the rest of the world, and India is maybe unusually positive"
- OpenAI India head Prabhjeet Singh attributed growth to deep integration into daily workflows, Indian-language support, an Android focus, and upcoming UPI payments with Razorpay
- Altman pointed to Indian users building companies and completing time-consuming tasks with ChatGPT as the driver of adoption
