Austrian survey: only 3-9% of students aged 11-20 never use AI; weaker students use it most

A survey by Austrian tutoring institute Lernquadrat, covering 1,045 students aged 11-20 nationwide from June to October, shows AI is now ubiquitous in schools:
- Only 9% of 11-14-year-olds and 3% of 15-20-year-olds say they never use AI; about half of the younger group use it daily or several times a week, and more than three quarters of the older group do.
- Top uses: studying for tests and getting explanations for concepts they don't understand (two thirds each); half use it for research or checking answers.
- Self-described 'bad' students use AI most heavily: 24% use it multiple times daily for school — double the overall rate.
The findings align with the latest PISA data: only 11% of Austrian 15-16-year-olds rarely or never use AI chatbots for school, versus 39% in Japan and 28% in Ireland. Developer Armin Ronacher (mitsuhiko) amplified the numbers.
