OpenAI acquires Pierre Computer to bring code storage into Codex, challenging GitHub
kimmonismus · x · 2026-11-04
Per an Axios exclusive, OpenAI is acquiring developer tools startup Pierre Computer and plans to integrate Pierre's Code Storage technology into Codex, where it's already in use. Financial terms weren't disclosed and Pierre's open-source projects remain open-source. The move follows OpenAI's reveal of Pando, built to handle the explosion of agent-generated code — the company says it cut code-push time by nearly 80% and is exploring offering it to customers. Bottom line: OpenAI is expanding from helping developers write code to controlling the infrastructure where that code is stored, reviewed and shipped, territory long dominated by Microsoft's GitHub.
