Don't Give AI Agents Broad Access to CRM, Billing and Customer Data at Once
djgoel123 · reddit · 2026-11-04
The author argues against giving AI agents simultaneous broad access to CRM, billing, and customer databases: one misunderstood instruction could read records, change subscriptions, issue refunds, and send emails across systems.
Core proposal: separate what the agent needs to know from what it's allowed to do, and before wiring up more tools, define:
- Which actions are read-only?
- Which require validation?
- Which need explicit approval?
- What happens on conflicting instructions?
- Can every critical action be traced to a verified request?
Key point: keep permission checks outside the model — an LLM deciding an action is allowed is no substitute for application-enforced authorization. Give agents enough access to be useful, not enough to cause a major incident.
