Filmmaker uses Claude Opus to direct AI movie: still needs tons of reshoots for 150 minutes
MosskeepForest · reddit · 2026-11-04
A Reddit user is publicly developing an AI movie, Magehold, using Claude Opus 5.5 as the "director" and Seedance 2.5 (30s per generation) to render footage.
- Workflow: skills/guiding files must be retuned after every model release; Claude designs shots first, then splits scenes into 30-second chunks without breaking continuous action
- References: environment frames, character sheets (including background characters), and reusable props are handled in GPT — the author calls look development the slowest part, especially for fantasy art direction like guard outfits
- Reality check: consistency remains the biggest problem. The AI makes easily avoidable errors (repeated camera setups, choppy action flow), so chunks get heavily reshot and edited. Automated self-checking loops were considered but shelved as too costly in credits
The author suspects a modern-city setting would be easier, but without establishing a consistent visual style first, a 150-minute runtime is unworkable.
