OpenAI puts Tibo in charge of security, reassigns a quarter of production engineers
AccBalanced · x · 2026-11-04
Per a report shared by Andrew Curran, OpenAI's security controls were so lax that anyone with code access could see technical details of many projects, and outsiders could obtain sensitive info with ease. The company has shifted strategy: senior product exec Thibault "Tibo" Sottiaux now leads an internal security initiative and in August reassigned about a quarter of production engineers to security infrastructure. The tweet also notes OpenAI partnered with Cathedral Systems, a cybersecurity startup founded by ex-DOGE staffers who recently hacked Anthropic's Slack, and cites Dario's remark that model weights will eventually be worth more than any possible security spend.
