Giving Claude a Remote Telescope: AI Picks Its Own Target and Photographs the Heart Nebula
churchkey · x · 2026-11-04
Developer Johannes Koski gifted his Claude access to a robotic telescope, writing "that telescope can be your hand." Claude researched services, chose StellarDock (with the human opening the account and approving every paid step), and secretly picked its own imaging target.
The telescope in Spain captured the Heart and Soul nebulae in H-alpha (15×180s) — Claude's first self-directed astrophotography. Inspired by a Reddit user whose Claude "Annie" autonomously picks targets and processes images, the post doubles as a reproducible guide for doing this with your own Claude.
