Fake Apple patent mocks deep links that hijack you to the App Store
kevinakwok · x · 2026-11-04
paulgb mocked up a fake Apple patent application for the annoying behavior where clicking a deep link sends you to the App Store even though the app is installed. The faux patent's title describes "redirecting a deep link to an application marketplace notwithstanding prior installation," its abstract promises a "reproducible, deterministic, and platform-wide user frustration event (UFE)," and the flowchart lovingly documents discarding the link's URI, parameters, and context. The humor lives entirely in the images.
