WSJ: OpenAI staff warned leadership for years about security lapses and espionage risks

Per a WSJ report, OpenAI employees repeatedly warned leadership about security lapses and espionage risks. In 2023, then-researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner wrote an internal memo titled "OpenAI is China's leading AI lab" and later shared it with board members after a hacker breached OpenAI and obtained details about its GPT-4 model; OpenAI said the hacker only accessed company-wide Slack channels. Adding security layers risks slowing the lab down and letting rivals inch ahead.
