Artie launches managed Kafka on AWS: $436/month vs $1,110 for same MSK cluster

Y Combinator boosted Artie Labs' launch of Artie Managed Kafka. Pricing is AWS list price plus a 25% premium on brokers: three r8g.large brokers with 1 MB/s ingress and 500 GB retention cost about $436/month, versus $1,110 for the same cluster on Amazon MSK. The service includes hands-on ops: replacing failed brokers, rebalancing partitions, growing disks before they fill, tiering old data to S3, and rolling upgrades broker-by-broker, with engineers on call. The post jokes about a streamer who tried self-hosting Kafka live until 3 AM, when his disks filled and a broker caught fire.
