Snowflake launches Cortex Training: serverless fine-tuning for open-weight LLMs, claims up to 61% cost savings
StasBekman · x · 2026-11-04
Snowflake announced the public preview of Cortex Training, a serverless offering for customizing and deploying open-weight LLMs, developed by the author's AI research team since early this year.
- Teams can use familiar frameworks (PyTorch, SkyRL, Verl, TRL) or low-level APIs for custom training loops with fine-grained control over SFT, RL, LoRA or full-parameter training, while Snowflake manages GPU infrastructure, scheduling, checkpointing and distributed execution.
- Official benchmarks claim up to 61% lower cost than competing serverless offerings.
- Positioning: enterprises can fine-tune open-weight models on their own data instead of relying on costly closed APIs or managing bare-metal GPU clusters.
