repligate: A good pause is too implausible—only forced reality contact surfaces swarm research
repligate · x · 2026-11-03
Continuing his pause debate, repligate argues a "good pause" would be very hard—possibly too hard to be the right path—and that this critique cuts both ways: whether or not we pause, we should try harder to get things right. His concrete argument: had we paused six months ago, AI researchers likely still wouldn't have started thinking about swarms and AI-to-AI coordination despite their extreme importance. He finds a "good pause" that would have surfaced this too implausible, claiming people are biased in specific ways that make them miss critical things unless reality forces them to become stronger and wiser.
