Windows WebView2 browser with local stdio MCP server: persistent profiles and explicit tab IDs
Otherwise-Court8156 · reddit · 2026-11-03
The author maintains Browser Control SDK, a Windows WebView2 browser with a built-in local stdio MCP server. The idea: sign in normally via the browser's persistent profile, then let an authorized MCP client observe page controls, click, type, and take screenshots in that same session.
Key design points:
- One MCP connection maps to one browser instance, which can hold tabs across several profiles; later calls pass explicit tab IDs
- Two separate browser instances need two MCP entries with explicit endpoint paths
- New Python/JavaScript/C++ human-checkpoint examples: a checkpoint waits for confirmation and re-reads the same tab, but does not auto-detect or solve verification screens
- On a localhost fixture, tab A received its click while B stayed active; closing A returned tabnotfound
MIT licensed, free, no input driver or admin rights required. The author is seeking feedback on tab targeting and handing control back to a human.
