Dan Vega pushes back on 'AI kills frameworks': writing code is cheap, owning it isn't
therealdanvega · x · 2026-11-03
Spring advocate Dan Vega countered the claim that AI will be the nail in the coffin for CMSs and frameworks. His argument: whatever an agent spins up in 6 minutes still has to run on something — either it uses an existing framework, or it rewrites a worse one that nobody has tested or patched. His one-line takeaway: writing code is now cheap, but owning code is still expensive. Maintenance, testing and patching costs don't vanish just because generation got fast — so CMSs may fade, but battle-tested frameworks like Spring won't.
