repligate: model welfare framing is a concession; without a pause it will look inadequate
repligate · x · 2026-11-03
AI-safety commentator repligate argues that frames like "model preservation" and "model welfare" are concessions to the status quo—he only uses them because they're inside the Overton window, and it feels uncomfortable. If there's no pause in a couple of years, he says, they will look as inadequate as past-era thinking looks from today's "enlightened" perspective.
He adds: his sense of the current state of "attention" to important things is like how others might view attention in 2020—completely inadequate, a blindness visible only from the meta level.
