Causal ML decision-support system for acute heart failure enters first-in-human trial

A team presented at TCT2026 a causal ML clinical decision-support system now entering a first-in-human prospective trial at Rambam Health Care Campus.
It targets a guideline-free scenario: acute heart failure patients developing AKI on IV diuretics — should diuretic doses be increased/maintained or decreased? The model estimates patient-level effects of each strategy on kidney recovery and 30-day readmission/mortality, and defers when uncertain. A sample recommendation shows increase/maintain with predicted 3-day creatinine of 1.22 vs 1.80 mg/dL and 30-day readmission/mortality risk of 9.0% vs 18.1%.
