MotherDuck launches Flight Explainer: live charts for agent-built Python pipelines
josh_wills · x · 2026-11-03
MotherDuck launched Flight Explainer, giving Flights (Python jobs that run on MotherDuck compute on demand or on schedule—API pulls, ETL, table refreshes) something like EXPLAIN ANALYZE for pipelines: a flight declares its planned steps before running, reports what each step did as it runs, and shows plan vs. outcome side by side—which steps ran, how it branched, how far each got, what it touched.
Since Flights can be built in minutes by an agent via the MotherDuck MCP server, this targets the code that's hardest to test. No install needed: just ask your agent to "add Flight Explainer instrumentation to my flights" and the chart opens in chat. Unexecuted steps appear on the chart upfront, making skipped steps easy to spot.
