Yale lab open-sources a Claude skill that makes publication-quality schematic figures

Yale's LGW Lab (Jinchen Zhao, Logan Wright), inspired by viral Opus 5.5 image demos, built a Claude skill for research schematic figures, open-sourced on GitHub along with a benchmark.
Key points:
- To rule out memorization, all test papers were published after Opus 5.5's training cutoff (Nature Physics, Nature Chemistry, etc.).
- Without the skill, Opus 5.5 makes decent one-shot figures but they are mostly flat boxes and arrows carried by text; with the skill, outputs include illustrated scenes and proper 3D renders that convey the idea visually.
- The authors conclude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra, equipped with the right skill, can produce schematics close to publication quality on their own.
