RL weight-update pause time doesn't depend on datacenter distance, authors say
gharik · x · 2026-11-03
Explaining their open-source fast weight updates for RL, the authors clarify why sampler pause time is independent of the distance and bandwidth between senders and recipients: the pause only handles decompression and patching, done with a native decompression ASIC and overlapped with local GPU work.
So even with trainers and samplers in different datacenters, the sync pause doesn't grow with distance.
