GitHub Actions bills each job rounded up to the minute: 3×10s serial jobs cost 6x more
DanielLockyer · x · 2026-11-02
CI pro tip: GitHub Actions (and Blacksmith etc.) round every job's billed time UP to the nearest minute, so a 10-second job costs a full minute. Workflows with many short serial setup jobs get hit hard — 10s+10s+10s (30s of work) is billed as 3 minutes, a 6x premium. Combining short jobs into one and parallelizing internally is both cheaper and faster, since job scheduling overhead is 10s in the author's experience.
