Aerospace insider explains how Mach tuck may have downed a Learjet 60 in Florida
bingxu_ · x · 2026-11-02
An aerospace industry insider analyzed today's plane crash in Florida, suggesting icing and moderate turbulence may have triggered Mach tuck — a known hazard in Learjet 60s and older Learjets. Exceeding maximum airspeed at altitude makes the aircraft unrecoverable: lift coefficient moves too far aft, the plane pitches over like a dart, trading altitude for speed until impact. The retweeter adds that aerospace has progressed little in 20 years and could use a real AI co-pilot.
