Phonic introduced Phonic-1, a speech-to-speech model for agentic tasks, and announced a $27.5M Series A led by First Round (total funding $31.5M). Phonic-1 tops the Artificial Analysis Speech-to-Speech Index with the highest agentic task success rate at the lowest latency. The company argues end-to-end speech-to-speech beats cascade pipelines, which lose tone and pauses in transcription, and demonstrates acting while the caller is still talking. The poster demoed it in SwiftUI with 41 natural voices across 50 languages as an alternative to GPT-Live-1, Gemini 3.8 Live, and Grok Voice 3.
