Claude Code mod swaps compaction for a transcript pointer, author calls compaction a 'collective hallucination'
secemp9 · x · 2026-11-01
Developer Tomcc published a guide for a Claude Code mod that replaces built-in context compaction with a pointer to the session transcript.
- When context fills up, Claude Code normally summarizes the conversation, losing detail; this mod skips the summary, clears context, and points Claude at the session's own <path.jsonl> transcript so it can reread exactly what happened.
- Requires Claude Code 2.1.316 or later, the version where mods can hook session events.
- The author reports it works great and suggests compaction as a whole may have been a collective hallucination of the field.
secemp9 quote-tweets it, noting everyone is converging on append-only workflows and dynamic threads with search.
