Proactive agents explained: the trick is putting approval gates only on irreversible actions
Arindam_1729 · x · 2026-11-01
A clear explainer on proactive agents: most AI assistants wait for prompts, but a proactive agent starts on its own from a clock or an app signal — at 8 AM with the laptop shut, it has already read your inbox and flagged the request for a Series A deck.
The loop: a trigger fires → the agent picks up the work and drafts the next step → it stops at an approval gate before sending, posting or paying → you approve and only then it acts.
The honest tradeoff: an agent that asks approval for everything gets ignored by day two; one that never asks will eventually send the wrong email. The skill is gating only actions you can't take back.
Demoed with OpenDuet (MIT-licensed, built with Mastra, Nebius Token Factory and Composio): the agent drafts an email showing "Waiting for your OK" and nothing sends until you click Approve.
