terrio v0.6.0: pure-Rust geospatial I/O without GDAL install, usable in browser and by AI agents
giswqs · x · 2026-11-01
terrio v0.6.0 reads, writes, converts and reprojects geospatial rasters, vectors and point clouds in pure Rust with no GDAL installation and no C dependencies in default builds. It still follows GDAL's design: commands and options mirror GDAL's, many algorithms and drivers are ports of GDAL/PROJ/PDAL code, and results are tested against them.
- Use from CLI, Python, JavaScript (WebAssembly) or Rust, or let AI agents drive it via MCP
- Supports COG, Zarr, GeoParquet, COPC
- Since v0.5.0: 161 PRs merged, 33 issues closed, 223 GitHub stars, 12 contributors
- New standalone CRS engine terrio-crs 0.2.0 with geocentric and IAU planetary CRSs, PROJJSON and new projections
