Open-source Garmin MCP turns training data into AI-built dashboards
indaco_dev · reddit · 2026-11-01
- What it does: free MIT-licensed garmin-personal-mcp connects Garmin data (official read-only Personal API) to MCP-capable assistants like Claude and Codex. Ask things like "How did my long runs change over 8 weeks?" or "Was my sleep worse in heavier training weeks?" It also parses raw .FIT files for laps and strength sets with muscles worked.
- Coaching prompts: Run review, Race readiness (with pacing plan), and set-by-set Strength review.
- Interactive dashboard: a single offline HTML file with training/recovery/per-sport views; describe a new widget and the assistant adds it; layouts survive updates; supports scheduled updates ("every morning at 7") and coach-only dashboards that exclude unselected data entirely.
- Privacy & speed: API key, full dataset and dashboard stay local; the assistant writes only coach notes and the page builds locally — 30 seconds instead of 25+ minutes when the AI writes the whole page.
- Author built it with Claude Code, designed and reviewed every change, and runs it on his own data. Demo available with fake data.
