Indie dev's AI pipeline converted 300 books, but human eyes are now the bottleneck
burkov · x · 2026-11-01
ChapterPal author burkov shares his indie workflow: every new book must be converted from source formats (PDF, LaTeX, ePUB, HTML and more) into his product's own Markdown flavor.
Conversion used to be the hardest part — one book per week. With AI, he now has nearly 300 converted books waiting in the pipeline, 95% publish-ready by his estimate.
The remaining 5% of conversion artifacts can only be caught by human eyes, and since each issue is unique to a specific book, he can't trust an LLM to validate. He can only review a couple of books a day before eye fatigue, making himself the bottleneck between the books and readers. He ends by asking for solutions.
