PlotWeaver unveils STORM-Ensemble 3.0: one 3B model synthesizing 64 African languages
Fowe · x · 2026-11-01
PlotWeaver released STORM-Ensemble 3.0, a 3-billion-parameter multilingual speech synthesis model covering 64 African languages — from Yorùbá, Igbo, Hausa and Nigerian Pidgin to Swahili, Amharic, Wolof, Zulu and Xhosa — with 166 distinct speaker voices, all model-generated rather than prerecorded samples.
The team says the industry long dismissed African languages as too fragmented and commercially insignificant to build advanced AI for. Envisioned use cases include filmmakers distributing stories across languages, banks and telcos serving customers in mother tongues, and education platform localization.
