Schelling's Segregation Model Is Compelling and Wrong — So Is Much of Autoresearch Output
generativist · x · 2026-11-01
@generativist argues Schelling's segregation model is compelling but wrong: it convinces because generative sufficiency feels good — much like "elegance" to a programmer or "first principles" to an engineer. A great deal of autoresearch output gives him the same feeling: coherent and elegant on the surface, yet potentially wrong in critical ways. A caution against mistaking generative plausibility for correctness in AI-generated research, consistent with his practice of catching misapplications while reading agent-written textbook reports.
