Amazon reportedly junking 2-3-year-old H100/H200 GPUs while books still assume 6-year depreciation

A viral analysis claims Amazon is storing or destroying NVIDIA H100/H200 chips after just 2-3 years instead of selling them. Amazon and Microsoft have both admitted AI-era GPU depreciation is far faster, citing the pace of AI/ML development. Under power constraints, hyperscalers are rotating in newer generations (e.g. Vera Rubin), giving GPUs a real life of 2-3 years — yet paper depreciation still runs 6 years, meaning substantial unrecognized losses haven't hit the balance sheet. A flood of secondhand H100/H200s would also crush hyperscaler revenue.
