Cloudflare Durable Objects No Longer Interrupted by Deploys, Update on Hibernate
threepointone · x · 2026-10-31
Cloudflare has shipped a long-requested fix for Durable Objects: after deploying a new version, live objects no longer get interrupted mid-request. Instead, updates are applied the next time an object hibernates, with a default grace period of 5 minutes before a forced update — configurable up to 24 hours. A meaningful reliability win for anyone running stateful workloads or long-running agents on Durable Objects.
The change was celebrated by Cloudflare engineer threepointone, who quote-tweeted the announcement with evident relief.
