Lightberry's Lumi becomes the only humanoid robot cleared by the US government for sale
ycombinator · x · 2026-10-31
Lightberry says its Lumi humanoid robots passed a US Department of War national security review and received an exemption from the FCC Covered List, making it the first and only humanoid company approved to import and sell robots in the US.
In July 2026, the FCC placed foreign-produced advanced robotic devices on its Covered List, blocking FCC authorization needed to sell them in the US. Manufacturers can apply to the DoW for review, and Conditional Approval exempts a device.
Lightberry earned the exemption with commitments including full control over what runs inside Lumi, replacing the robot's sensors and internal hardware to address security concerns. The company also claims to be the only US humanoid company currently shipping robots, using an existing supply chain.
