Subvocal raises $1.3M from YC and Afore for glasses that decode silent speech at 200+ wpm

Subvocal, a YC-backed startup, has raised $1.3M from YC and Afore Capital to ship glasses that decode silent, near-invisible mouthing into text at over 200 words per minute. The device uses non-contact sensing to track internal speech muscles, letting users input text without speaking aloud or touching a keyboard; pre-orders are live.
Notably, a reply points out WisprFlow (Wispr AI) started with subvocal recognition before pivoting to speech-to-text in late 2024 — the image shows Wispr AI's granted patent (No. 12776314) for a wearable silent-speech device using ML-based signal analysis, showing incumbents have long hedged on this direction.
