Lightberry's Lumi becomes first humanoid robot cleared by US government in FCC security review
ycombinator · x · 2026-10-31
Lightberry announced that its Lumi humanoid robots passed a national security review by the U.S. Department of War and received an exemption from the FCC's Covered List, making it the first and only humanoid robot company approved to date.
Context: in July the FCC added foreign-produced advanced robotic devices, including humanoids, to the Covered List, barring new devices from getting FCC authorization to import, market, or sell in the U.S. Manufacturers can apply to DoW for review; a Conditional Approval exempts a device. Lightberry earned approval with commitments including full control over what runs inside Lumi, replacing its sensors and onboard software to address security concerns.
