TONGYI SpeechAI: Streaming TTS, not LLMs, is the real bottleneck for voice assistants
rdesh26 · x · 2026-10-31
TONGYI SpeechAI (Alibaba) argues that while LLMs already stream answers token by token, voice assistants still stay silent — and the bottleneck is usually TTS, which waits for the full sentence before speaking.
Streaming TTS solves this by starting synthesis as text tokens arrive, cutting response latency for real-time voice assistants.
