Composable LoRA directions for texture, geometry and lighting make 3D fine-tuning cheaper
burkov · x · 2026-10-31
An article (via Sebastian Raschka) tackles efficient fine-tuning of 3D vision foundation models: specialized tasks often require costly, privacy-sensitive real-world 3D data, and standard parameter-efficient updates can either miss important changes or overfit. The method represents recurring 3D variation types—texture, geometry, camera motion, lighting—as reusable, separate update directions. Built on the VGGT 3D foundation model, the approach generates synthetic scenes where one visual property varies while others stay stable, trains separate low-rank adapters per property across multiple datasets, then combines the model updates to identify directions shared across datasets—making fine-tuning both more efficient and more accurate.
