Sanity open-sources pi-mcp-events: streaming MCP Events client for the Pi agent harness
knutmelvaer · reddit · 2026-10-31
Sanity engineers open-sourced pi-mcp-events, an extension for the Pi agent harness implementing the MCP Events draft (SEP-3415), supporting all three delivery modes: polling, streaming, and signed webhooks.
The motivating use case: an agent editing CMS content that detects when a human opens the same field and waits for them.
Highlights:
- /mcp-events status shows each watch's transport and state for easier debugging
- A local inbox prevents event loss while the agent is busy
- Ships with a demo MCP server so you can try it immediately
Lessons from real testing:
- A successful subscribe doesn't mean the server has started listening — they lost an event in that gap and argue the spec should treat subscribe success as the capture start point
- Events eat context fast; waking the agent only for actionable events made the biggest difference
- Webhooks reached ChatGPT in 2s, but agent action lagged 13s to nearly 2 minutes — fine for watchers, not for real-time collaboration
Install: pi install npm:@sanity-labs/pi-mcp-events
