Microsoft Bing splits AI training from AI search grounding with new site-owner controls
gaganghotra_ · x · 2026-10-31
Per Barry Schwartz, Microsoft announced new Bing AI content controls letting site owners separately decide whether their content can be used for AI training, AI answer grounding, or both — while staying eligible for regular Bing search results. Three main options: AI Training (allow/block model training use), AI Grounding (allow/block use in AI answers), and Limited Grounding (allow Microsoft's own AI products but not third-party grounding services). Publishers can block training while still appearing in Copilot answers. The piece notes Google, OpenAI and Anthropic are also on board with similar mechanisms.
